Formerly, known as “Christmas in April”, Rebuilding Together - Mountain Communities is an annual event that seeks to help community residents who simply don’t have the physical ability to make needed, and often life-threatening repairs to their homes. There is often a financial needs component, as well, which is assessed by the Rebuilding Together Home Committee. Once the group of homes is selected for the current year, sponsors, such as the Lake Arrowhead Rotary, take on the responsibility for funds and manpower to accomplish repairs and refurbishments of a particular home. By teaming up with area contractors, who do the heavier and more demanding repairs, a home can be transformed in a matter of days.
On the fourth Saturday of April (the 24th in 2010), Rotarians from Lake Arrowhead Rotary and from Mountain Sunrise Rotary line up by the dozens to be part of this community based, annual effort. You can see the work and the results of past years in our gallery pages. Or jump in your car on that Saturday, drive by one of the houses being worked on, and give some horn-honking encouragement to the workers. They’ll really appreciate it.
Want to help, but feel you just can’t swing a hammer or lift a board? There’s always help needed at the Senior Center in Twin Peaks, where worker lunches are assembled. And, you can always show back up for a terrific worker appreciation dinner that is sponsored by the Mountain Sunrise Rotary Club. They also sponsor a house on Rebuilding Together
