Lake Arrowhead Rotary Club 879
Greetings friends, neighbors, and fellow Rotarians, and welcome to summer in Lake Arrowhead.

The Rotary Year 2009-10 has been a busy year, and under the leadership of Angela Yap, another successful year for the Rotary Club of Lake Arrowhead.  A few short weeks ago our club successfully held the annual Art & Wine Festival at ALA’s Tavern Bay Beach Club, with the volunteer help of most of our members, spouses, friends and a number of the other non-profit organizations from our mountain communities.  The community always looks forward to this great social event which raises money that Rotary returns to our community.  Some of the needs receiving support this past year, and which are targeted again in the 2010-11 Rotary year include literacy, health, student development and education, clean water and sanitation.

Our club of 60+ community members, leaders, and business professionals appreciates the generous support received from the mountain communities at large, as well as that received from our neighboring clubs and other non-profits.  We thank you all, and look forward to an ongoing and healthy relationship.

As a part of our mission, we Rotarians remain dedicated to work towards a healthy and vibrant environment in which to live, raise our children, and conduct our daily business, whether it is our local communities, or beyond, and to live in peace and understanding with one another.

To those ends, this new Rotary year the Rotary Club of Lake Arrowhead will again be dedicating support to our local education district in the form of scholarships, a literacy program, books for school libraries, the 4 Way Test speech contest,  and a Music Competition.  We also plan to continue with the popular and effective Challenge Day, conducted last year at Rim High and Mountain High in Crestline.

Additionally this year we hope to host a foreign exchange student from Brazil, and are always looking for a local family with high school aged children who would be interested and able to participate in this program by sending their student to a participating foreign country.

Then towards fall or winter, we hope to provide another Dental Screening Clinic for children of needy families, last held two years ago.  And we are continuing to provide support for Oduworo Village in Uganda, in the form of clean water and sanitation projects.

Also, look for us in the Blue Jay Parade, then in February 2011, if you would like, please join us at the Lake Arrowhead Resort, on the beach, for the 3rd Annual PolaRotary Plunge.  That’s right, a run thru the snow (the last two years) then a jump in the chilly waters of beautiful Lake Arrowhead.  This has proven to be a highly popular fund raiser for our club, bringing in not only Rotarians from each of our local Rotary Clubs, but other non-Rotarian business and civic leaders from around the mountain.  Watch for the news as we approach winter.

These are just a few of the projects and activities our club is proud to be a part of, and I encourage any that are interested in exploring them or other activities supported by our members, your neighbors, to feel free to call or e-mail me with your questions.

And we invite any of you interested in learning more of Rotary, or those interested in joining us for lunch, to please do so.  We currently meet Tuesdays at 12:15PM at the Royal Oak in Blue Jay.  Also watch the Mountain News, as we quite regularly have articles therein, or come back and visit our website, lakearrowheadrotary.net.

Here’s to yet another successful year for each of the mountain top Rotary Clubs, and our friends and associates in the ever supportive non-profits in our local communities.

See you in the Rotary Year 2010-11
