New Member Groundrules

Every Rotarian has a duty to seek out potential new Rotarians from their acquaintances who meet our standards of character and commitment to "Service Above Self." Many wonderful people are not Rotarians only because they were never asked.

General Qualifications - Rotarians are adults of good character and good business or professional
reputation, who hold or have held an executive position with discretionary authority in any worthy and recognized business or profession.

A prospective Rotarian must meet the following general groundrules:

  • Is the individual's character and reputation above reproach?

  • Is the reputation of the individual's firm exemplary?

  • Is the person "service minded"?

  • Was the sponsor of the candidate a member of the club for at least six months?

  • Is the candidate able to meet the financial obligations of membership and able to attend weekly meetings regularly?

  • Is the individual:
    a. engaged as a proprietor, partner, corporate officer or manager of any worthy and recognized business or profession: or

    b. acting as the local agent or branch representative of any worthy business or profession, having charge of such agency or branch in an executive capacity; and is personally and actively engaged in the business or profession in which such person would be classified in the club and the place of business or residence is located within the territorial limits of our club. Except for a large organization (e.g. school district) only one person from an organization can be a member of this club.

  • Has the prospect been in the mountains long enough, either working or living?
We have had low retention of new residents in the community. For that reason, new prospects must have resided or worked on the mountain for 12 months before proposal. There are several exceptions to this: a) part time property owners who change their residence to this area are eligible after 6 months, b) past Rotarians are eligible after 6 months, and c) current Rotarians form other Rotary clubs who move to the mountain are eligible after 90 days. Occasionally, other exceptions are made by the Board on a case by case basis.
